MOBOTIX cameras can be administered fully via the Internet and support routing functions as well as DynDNS. In principle, the cameras can be operated in six different functions by means of FTP or SMTP Internet protocols. Equipped with an integral ISDN line as standard, the camera also dials up independently to the Internet for this purpose:

  1. Live: The camera is connected directly to the Internet via a router (DSL, etc.) with a static (fixed) IP. It can support 25 users simultaneously on account of the large RAM memory and the special internal architecture of the camera web server. Thanks to the integral DynDNS functionality and used in conjunction with a public DynDNS server, the camera can also be reached on a DSL connection with a dynamic IP via a fixed name.
  2. Update home page: If the images from the camera need to be made available to a wider public, it is often conducted via an Internet server due to reasons of cost. To do this, the camera automatically dials up to the Internet like a PC and independently replaces the image file specified beforehand (e.g. myImage.jpg) on the specified home page by means of the integrated FTP program. The images are also typically saved there temporarily if "genuine" live images are not possible for legal reasons or simply not wanted. The image transfer can be triggered off as time-controlled (time task function), event-controlled or as a combination of these.
  3. Creating a hourly record: In some Internet applications a new image has to be displayed every hour, however the previous 24 hours are saved and are kept accessible. This task can be performed by the camera directly because it offers the option of creating several image files (filenamehh.jpg) with a coded time (hh) on the home page. These files are then overwritten at the same time next day.
  4. Document events: If images of events need to be archived for a lengthy period of time, the MOBOTIX cameras can automatically save these images in a time-structured folder; they automatically create the folder on the server. For example, an image recorded on 22nd August 2004 at about 17:45:33 can be saved under the following filename in the folder on the server: cameraName/2004/08/22/17/filename.jpg. The file can also be automatically named "m040822174533.jpg" ("m"yymmddhhss".jpg").
  5. Swap events: The events and image sequences which are recorded in the internal ring memory can be swapped cyclically via the Internet as a zipped file. An HTML player is added as an index file to the ZIP file so that the image sequences can be played at a later date without the need for special software.
  6. Send e-mail: MOBOTIX cameras support sending e-mails containing the current camera image if events occur or on a time-controlled basis.

All the camera actions can be performed a time or event-controlled basis. For example, thanks to the integral video motion sensor, an image can be transferred at the precise moment in time when a person passes through the image scene.

FTP storage is less advisable in the LAN because here the direct PC server storage (Windows, Linux) can be used with the camera's integral video management system. In this case the camera receives a folder from a PC which is contactable via the network and manages its long-time ring buffer in this folder independently.
