Exceptional Product Innovation Underlines Mobotix’s Receipt of Frost & Sullivan’s 2008 European CCTV and Video Surveillance Product Innovation Award
The 2008 European CCTV and Video Surveillance Product Innovation Award is presented to Germany based Mobotix AG for its advanced, innovative intelligent high resolution megapixel camera solutions designed to address the needs of the security industry. Mobotix AG is currently the leader of the high resolution megapixel camera market.
The intelligent decentralized system architecture pioneered by Mobotix AG coupled with the MxPEG video codec is the key to cost-efficient HiRes image recording. Apart from cost-considerations, analogue video over 0.4 megapixel resolution is technically not possible.
Another cost-saving feature is the increased coverage area of a high resolution megapixel camera: “A single high-resolution Mobotix AG camera providing four times more coverage and recording up to 30 times more detail can replace several analogue cameras, thereby bringing down investment and installation costs,” explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Archana Rao “A camera from Mobotix AG contains a total video surveillance system within itself, including built-in DVR software, microphone, speaker, motion detection sensor, temperature sensor and up to 16GB of internal memory. Such product innovations have provided Mobotix with significant competitive advantage, positioning it to grow strongly in the future.”
The recently introduced 3-megapixel color sensors with variable image scaling allows users to maximize image quality and minimize both bandwidth and storage requirements by customizing the image size and aspect ratio. The higher resolution and new functions have been made available on all Mobotix’s camera series at an unchanged price. The company’s systems are also distinguished by their ability to show the 3- megapixel image streams live and record these image streams directly from the camera.
The decentralised MOBOTIX system architecture makes it ideal for a wide range of applications, from small, single camera installations to large-scale installations involving hundreds of cameras. Every Mobotix AG camera has its own integrated event and alarm management software, which adjusts the recording frame rate, thereby reducing storage requirements.
“Moreover, the robust weather-proof housing and low power consumption of Mobotix AG cameras means there is no need for additional heating components, making them ideal for use in extreme weather conditions,” adds Rao. “Also, these cameras have no moving parts, making them virtually maintenance-free.” The company also differentiates itself from its competitors by eliminating licence fees for additional management software. MxControlCenter is Mobotix’s integrated professional control and recording software. Both MxControlCenter and the camera software can be periodically automatically upgraded with new functions via free downloads.
The company’s innovative offerings effectively support the convergence of multiple security technologies. Mobotix AG cameras with MxPEG video codec effectively meet the integration needs of the future. The Frost & Sullivan Award for Product Innovation is presented each year to the company that has best demonstrated the ability to develop and/or advance products with more innovative capabilities than competing vendors and products. This Award recognizes the company’s successful adoption of new or existing technology that has become a part of its well-designed product family. Such innovation is expected to significantly contribute to the industry in terms of product performance and degree/rate of technical change.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research in order to identify best practices in the industry.
About Mobotix AG
Mobotix AG is a leading system provider of digital high-resolution, network-based video security system technology. Network cameras allow the transport of video and audio data via digital computer networks rather than via coaxial cable like the conventional analogue cameras. Digital transfer also makes it possible to overcome the limit of 0.1 megapixels on image resolutions from analogue cameras resulting from th use of the television standard and move it into the megapixel range.
One of the major technical innovations of Mobotix is to shift intelligence from the central control unit where it is usually held in video security systems to the camera itself by integrating software for image creation, image analysis, event control as well as recording management. It is only this decentralised system architecture that makes megapixel technology possible at all and profitable. Mobotix is currently the only company offering network camera systems with this kind of software-based, decentralised system architecture. In addition to the network camera, Mobotix offers a complete video management software solution for video surveillance systems.
Over 100,000 Mobotix cameras are currently in operation throughout the globe. Areas of application for the cameras range from individual users i the private sector to applications in the public sector to complex applications in major concerns operating worldwide.
